Why You Should Be Adding BUTTER & MCT Oil to Your Green Tea

Lately I’ve been getting a lot of questions about my diet so I posted what I typically have for breakfast on my Instagram so I wanted to share with you why I do this and how you can make this at home (its super easy – you’ll love it!).

For those of you who don’t have a lot of time to decide what to make for breakfast, sit down and eat it, don’t like breakfast foods, need your caffeine, are always hungry and/or are on low carb, high fat diets…. Allow me to introduce you to Bulletproof Tea. You may have heard of adding butter to your coffee of Bulletproof Coffee (which uses Bulletproof brand coffee that is specially treated to prevent the growth of mycotoxins/mold and is lower in acidity than regular coffee) however not long ago I learned that coffee was a big trigger for my acne and have read that green tea is actually
good for your skin.

I really urge you to give up coffee for 3 months to see if you notice any improvements as I did – I know what you’re thinking and that seems like such a long time but it really takes a while for it to get out of your system completely and for your body to adjust.

 

For many drinking coffee isn’t even about the actual coffee but rather a habit or just a boost of caffeine. If coffee is a problem for you, like anything else, it is much easier to replace than to tell yourself you can’t have it so just try this replacement – you might even like it more. If you don’t have any issues consuming coffee then enjoy!

Here are some of the health benefits of Bulletproof coffee/tea:

-Many studies show that maintaining a low carb, high fat diet is very beneficial for loosing weight, overall health and PCOS

-Fat is good for satiety so you won’t feel hungry as quickly as eating if you had a high carb meal for example

-Caffeine is best consumed with fat to prolong the effects without causing an immediate rush in adrenaline

-Less brain fog

-Kills candida

Here’s how to make it, you’ll need:

-Organic, fair trade green tea

-MCT Oil (I use Bulletproof Octane Oil because it is the most potent I can find)

-Grass-fed unsalted butter

Directions:

  1. Steep your green tea until its pretty strong (otherwise it might taste watered down after you add the oil)
  2. Add 1-2 tablespoons MCT oil (start out with less and work your way up, if you don’t have MCT oil try using coconut oil, when I’m out of MCT oil sometimes I use this as a substitute)
  3. Add 1-2 tablespoons butter
  4. Blend in a BPA free blender such as a Magic Bullet

 

DSC_0682Keep in mind this is a high calorie breakfast as 1 tablespoon of MCT oil is 140 calories and 1 tablespoon of butter is 100 calories but really you shouldn’t skimp on the fat out of fear of calories because the more fat you add the less likely you’ll be to cave into the donuts at work. This is typically consumed as a meal (although some do have it with a low carb meal) so it contains enough substance to keep you full but also provides you with enough of what you need to get through your morning so you’re not starving yourself by any means.

Most people who try it really enjoy the taste compare it to a latte. While I recommend not using sweetener if possible, if you must, try adding just a bit of stevia or xylitol.
